Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Smart Outdoor Perimeter Beam?
It is an outdoor security sensor that creates an invisible infrared detection line between a transmitter and receiver. When someone crosses that protected line, the security system can detect the event.
How far can the perimeter beam protect?
A beam pair can protect an outdoor distance of up to approximately 200 feet / 60 metres.
Can it protect a driveway?
Yes. Driveways are one of the strongest applications because the beam can detect a person or vehicle crossing a specific entrance to the property.
Is the beam visible?
No. The infrared detection beams are invisible during normal operation.
Is it the same as an outdoor motion detector?
No. A motion detector generally watches a broader detection area. The Smart Outdoor Perimeter Beam protects a specific invisible line between two devices.
Can it detect vehicles?
Yes. A vehicle crossing a correctly positioned beam can interrupt the infrared detection path and trigger the configured security event.
Can several perimeter beams be installed?
Yes. Multiple beam pairs can protect different entrances or perimeter sections. Four selectable beam channels help neighbouring beam sets operate together.
Does it need electrical wiring?
The detector is battery powered and communicates wirelessly with compatible Grand Alarms systems, reducing the need to run alarm wiring across the property.
Will snow or rain affect it?
The sensor is designed for outdoor use and monitors beam strength. Severe rain, snow or fog can weaken infrared signals, so environmental monitoring helps the system recognize degraded beam conditions.
Can someone tamper with it?
The detector includes cover and wall tamper protection designed to report attempts to open or interfere with the equipment.
How long do the batteries last?
Using recommended lithium batteries, approximate battery life is up to 3 years for the transmitter and 5 years for the receiver. Actual performance varies.
Will it work with my Grand Alarms system?
The Smart Outdoor Perimeter Beam works with compatible PowerG-enabled Grand Alarms systems. Grand Alarms can confirm compatibility before installation.
